Eo River Route – Pena de Millares

This PR-G 209 route, approved in 2017, begins in the Chao do Pousadoiro Recreation Area, following the beautiful bank of the Eo River, you reach the Recreational Area of A Retorta, a wonderful resting place, then continue up to Pena de Millares, from where to observe the Eo in all its splendor and then descend to the Village of Sadrarín , contemplated hórreos and its beautiful chapel, as we return to the starting point. A perfectly signposted and easily accessible route.

Access

From Lugo we will take the national road 640 towards Meira, then by Avenida da Cerca LU-751 to Ribeira de Piquín, and from here, we will continue along the LU-P-5404 road to Chao do Pousadoiro, which is where we will start the route. Ribeira de Piquín, is the fascinating Town Hall of the Terras de Burón Region, where we can enjoy almost virgin natural landscapes, stay in its rural tourism houses and appreciate its gastronomy, all before or after the beautiful tour.

Description of the route

Within the Eo-Oscos-Terras de Burón Biosphere Reserve, the Lucense mountains of Ribeira de Piquín form the paradisiacal landscape of this route, having the waters of the Eo River and its surroundings, all the prominence.

The route begins close to the recreational area of Chao do Pousadoiro, a beautiful river beach to continue crossing a bridge over the River Eo, observing on the right the mills of Aceña de Barcia, and walking pleasantly between the flora and fauna of padros to reach the bridge of San Jorge, where we can contemplate a few meters the Romanesque church of the eighteenth century of the same name and hear the sound that makes the water in the ruins of The Aceña de Campos.

We follow the path, to get immediately to the recreational area of A Retorta, a beautiful place to take a break before starting to climb, in Rego de Mestre we find the Aceña de Fidalgo to continue the route along the road das Gardiñeiras, where we will surround the meadows and forests of lush, a well and a fountain enabled to drink water.

Continue the path and we find the union of O Rego das Gardiñeiras and O Rego de Sua Pena, watching as we climb the Monte de Acebedo e Mestre, a varied vegetation and reach our ears the groundwater music that runs through the stone, as we reach the viewpoint Da Pena de Millares and we are amazed by the magnificent views.

 

After the glimpse of the vislumbrada beauty, we begin to descend, passing through the village of Barcia and that of Sadrarin, where is the Chapel of San Juan Degollado and typical hórreos, already making the journey back to the starting point.
