CORTÍN DO ZARRALLEIRO
In the place of Ouviaña, in the parish of Os Vaos, in Ribeira de Piquín, there is something very curious and full of history, the cortín. The cortín is a typical construction from various Galician areas, also from Asturias or León.
This construction used to protect the hives from bears, made by hand with stone and mud walls, which used to be between 2 or 3 meters high and the wall between 50 or 100 centimeters thick, which were then covered with pieces of slate so that the rain would not filter through the stones. To enter it only had a small door.
Inside the curtain the bees feel safe in their hives and outside they have countless varied plants to make delicious honey.
