CHURCH OF SAN XOÁN DOS VAOS
On a small promontory surrounded by the Rodil River, is the village of Os Vaos, the name also given to the church and which you cannot miss on that getaway you are looking for.
Enjoy your walk in the middle of nature as you go up to the church, where you will be welcomed by a traditional stone wall and you will know the time by the sundial made on the slate.
The Church of Os Vaos has three naves covered in slate, with a beautiful bell tower, it belongs to the order of San Juan de Malta and stands out for having five skulls without the lower jaw, embedded in the wall, with a geometric arrangement over a window with views of the cemetery, right in front of the main door.
Visiting the Church of Os Vaos does not leave anyone indifferent, because it in itself is authentic beauty, the natural landscape gives it a special touch and the different legends about the skulls surround it with mystery. Although the most widespread belief is that these skulls belong to the founders of the church, who were possibly brothers.
In the whitewashed interior of the Church of Os Vaos, the main altarpiece is neoclassical in style and in the side altarpiece the polychrome image of Saint Andrew from the 15th century, in Renaissance style, stands out.
